Mitrophora semilibera (DC. ex Fr.) Leveille, syn. Morchella semilibera DC. ex Fr. Mützenmorchel Mitrophore à demi libre, Morillon, Semifree Morel. Cap 2–4cm high, concial with more or less vertical membranous ridges, dark olive-brown, lower part free of the stem as shown, as opposed to Morchella where the cap is attached to the stem. Stem 40–80 x 15–25mm, cylindrical hollow, whitish cream and scurfy. Asci 450´25m. Spores cream, 22–30´14–18m cream, 22–30 x 14–18µ. Habitat in damp woodland. Season spring. Occasional. Edible – not worthwhile. Distribution, America and Europe.
